Ending Cruelty Towards Baboons in the Western Cape
SaveCapeBaboons is a Non Profit Company in the Republic of South Africa

However, due to increased development in and around the Chacma Baboon habitat, it is the responsibility of the managing authorities to mitigate the presence of baboons in areas they once roamed freely, with strategies, processes and protocols based on holistic and least traumatic intervention in consultation with local baboon groups, scientists and communities.
When mismanagement occurs, SaveCapeBaboons will intervene to protect the welfare and safety of baboons. Wildlife in South Africa does not belong to the state, but the people; the State manages them for the people. Cape Nature and DEA&DP must ensure sustainable conservation and biodiversity to protect Chacma Baboons.
Due to the appointment of HWS by the Overstrand Municipality in 2020, the welfare and safety and ultimately the sustainability of the troops is in question. The Betty’s Bay troop has lost two vital alpha males within five months of each other, up to February 2022. Scarface was put down in September 2021 and now, Brutus, who was shot in the face by a resident while being monitored by HWS in Betty’s Bay on 26 February 2022. He was later euthanized as a result of his injuries. SaveCapeBaboons is offering a reward of R22,500.00* for information leading to a conviction (total anonymity). Pringle Bay has had it’s entire troop forcibly removed and relocated to an area already occupied by a neighbouring troop, without any consultation with or subsequent involvement of the community. Their numbers have also diminished.
